Giving Tuesday 2020
Dear Community of Casa Flamenca,
As 2020 comes to a close, I want to reach out to each of you, the friends and family of Casa Flamenca. This year has been very challenging and difficult but full of growth. A year that was poised to be the best year yet for our organization became a year full of challenges and changes.
2020 brought a worldwide crisis with the pandemic. While we initially thought of it as something negative in terms of our program, responding to the pandemic actually helped us continue our growth. Responding to the restrictions brought on by COVID-19 forced us to reinvent ourselves in order to continue providing dance and music to our community.
We learned new ways to reach out to our community while operating a nonprofit organization during these difficult times. Since March 2020, we have offered our program via livestream online concerts, classes and workshops. The online format has allowed us to feature master teachers and performing artists from Spain, widely acknowledged for their mastery of flamenco guitar, cante, and baile. It has become a great success attracting not only our local community but also students from all over the world.
Additionally, aided by your response to our summer fundraising campaign, we built a new outdoor tablao venue, Tablao al Aire. This outdoor space enabled us to present concerts and classes in a safe environment and allowed us to maintain our programming, teaching outdoor music and dance classes through November. With our investment in a new performance space, we are now prepared and have the resources to continue growing in ways we had not envisioned before the pandemic. We look ahead to the program we can build after this crisis passes and the global community moves forward.
As we close our 2020 program year, we are grateful and want to say how hopeful we are for the year 2021. We want to thank you for the support and encouragement you have given us throughout these challenging times. Your energy and enthusiasm have helped us continue moving forward.
Tuesday, December 1st is Giving Tuesday, the day of global generosity. We are an arts organization that builds communities through dance and music. Please consider supporting Casa Flamenca. Your support matters!
